Syria Signs $7 Billion Real Estate Deal With UAE's Arada

Syria signs a $7 billion agreement with UAE-based Arada for a major Damascus development featuring homes, healthcare, education and entertainment facilities, marking the developer’s entry into the Syrian market.

Syria has entered into a deal worth $7 billion to develop real estate in Syria with the help of developer Arada based in the UAE. This deal comes at an important juncture in the efforts of Syria to attract foreign investment and rebuild itself. The deal has been signed between Arada and Syrian Sovereign Fund.

This development project will be located in Damascus, and it will feature residential areas with a number of other social amenities. These amenities will include facilities related to health care, education, and entertainment among others. This development project will not only have residential areas but also other features as well.

Based on information provided by the state news agency of Syria, the project, which goes by the name of “New Damascus,” spans an area of roughly 4 million square meters, which translates to 43 million square feet. The project is intended to contain about 11,000 residential units, as well as facilities such as hotels, hospitals, schools, among others.

The development is inclusive of sustainable residential communities with an objective of helping individuals who have experienced displacement. According to the Syrian Sovereign Fund, the project involves housing plans that will benefit individuals living in camps and others whose houses have been destroyed, which connects the project with reconstruction needs of the country.

The agreement is made at a time when Syria attempts to reconstruct its economy and infrastructure following several years of war. This will be achieved through large-scale investments in the sectors of housing, healthcare, education, and commercial infrastructure. This will be vital in helping the country meet its urban development needs.

For Arada, the project is indeed a huge step in terms of geographical expansion into a new market environment for the company. The developer from the UAE has successfully built many residential and mixed-use communities across the country of United Arab Emirates. Thus, it becomes an opportunity for the company to use its experience in developing master-planned developments in a new market.

The partnership further emphasizes the importance of economic relationships between Syria and the UAE. Using the power of the Syrian Sovereign Fund, which has a local base, and that of Arada in developing cities, the partnership provides a model for a large urban project in Damascus.

The magnitude of investment being sought for this development makes it one of the more important real estate projects being proposed in Syria. The development of housing as well as basic community infrastructures will help to facilitate growth and reconstruction.

As the process moves forward, it is anticipated that this project will make contributions towards housing production, job creation, and infrastructure development in Damascus. This deal therefore signifies not only the foray of Arada into Syria, but also a wider attempt to utilize real estate development as an element of its economic and urban revival.
