In a major boost to premium hospitality infrastructure, Prem Singh Tamang, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, laid the foundation stone for Hyatt Regency Gangtok, a landmark 150-room five-star hotel in the heart of Gangtok. The ceremony was held at Chintan Bhawan.
The Chief Minister thanked Hyatt Hotels Corporation for selecting Gangtok for its prestigious global brand.
He emphasized that tourism remains a vital pillar of Sikkim’s economy, supporting thousands of families, with annual visitor numbers exceeding more than double the state’s population.
Key Highlights
In 2025 alone, Gangtok recorded over 17 lakh tourist arrivals, including more than 71,000 international visitors, reflecting strong year-on-year growth driven by improved connectivity and reopened tourist circuits.
Currently capable of hosting 42,000–45,000 tourists daily, Sikkim faces a demand-supply gap in the luxury hospitality segment. The addition of 150 luxury rooms is expected to attract higher-spending domestic and international travellers, strengthening high-value tourism, destination weddings, and MICE tourism in the Eastern Himalayas.
Developed by Gyalshing Hotels Private Limited, an SPV under SM Hotels and Resorts Pvt Ltd (hospitality arm of SM Developers), the hotel will be built on a 3.27-acre master-planned site. Designed by SCSY Studio, Singapore, it will feature experiential luxury offerings including a 180-cover all-day dining restaurant with alfresco seating, specialty restaurant, bar and lounge, Regency Club, temperature-controlled outdoor pool, 3,000 sq. ft. spa, gym, family activity zones, and 13,000 sq. ft. of flexible meeting and event spaces. A licensed casino facility will further elevate Gangtok’s appeal as a year-round events destination.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister stated, “This Foundation Stone is a symbol of trust, partnership, and the bright future we are building together in our beautiful Himalayan state, Sikkim.” He congratulated the SM Group and Poddar Group for their visionary initiative and for placing their confidence in the state.
Vikas Agarwal, Managing Director and CEO of SM Developers, said "The development marks a significant milestone for Sikkim’s hospitality sector."
