After nearly a decade of dormancy, the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) is restarting housing development with major projects in Sector 54, Sector 53, and the IT Park.
In Sector 54, CHB has reclaimed 32 acres of prime land by demolishing the decades-old illegal furniture market (15 acres, worth Rs. 400 crore) and Adarsh Colony slum (12 acres, worth Rs. 480 crore). A 1,000-flat housing scheme is planned, evenly distributed across categories: 250 units each of 4BHK, 3BHK/2BHK, 1BHK, and EWS flats, catering to diverse income groups.
Key Highlights
Simultaneously, CHB will launch its General Housing Scheme in Sector 53 by mid-September, its first since 2016. Spread across 8.98 acres, the project will offer 492 flats with updated collector rates: 3BHK at Rs. 2.30 crore, 2BHK at Rs. 1.97 crore, and EWS at Rs. 74 lakh.
Additionally, CHB is reviving its Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park project, stalled earlier due to environmental restrictions. The revised low-rise design (G+3 floors) addresses concerns about migratory bird flight paths near Sukhna Wildlife Sanctuary. The project will utilize 23.33 acres (Plots 1, 2, and 7) retrieved from Parsvnath Developers in 2015 after a prolonged legal battle.

These initiatives mark a major revival for CHB, signaling renewed focus on affordable housing, urban renewal, and eco-sensitive design, aimed at addressing Chandigarh’s growing residential demand after years of delay.
