To address the growing demand for affordable housing in the Bundelkhand region, the Uttar Pradesh Housing Board (Avas Vikas Parishad) has announced the launch of two large-scale residential schemes in Banda and Chitrakoot.
These initiatives will cover a total area of 499 acres—338 acres in Banda and 161 acres in Chitrakoot—and will deliver a combined 13,950 housing units, with nearly 90 percent reserved for individual plot-based home construction. The development costs are pegged at Rs. 1,390 crore for Banda and Rs. 895 crore for Chitrakoot, with land acquisition already underway.
Key Highlights
Both sites are strategically located in high-potential zones within their respective districts, aiming to transform the housing landscape and significantly uplift access to formal, affordable housing in underserved regions of Bundelkhand.
According to Additional Housing Commissioner Niraj Shukla, the board is also fast-tracking work on the Saumitra Vihar scheme in Lucknow’s New Jail Road, with RERA registration and documentation in progress. Further expansion efforts are advancing in Varanasi, Unnao, and Moradabad, where clearances have been granted for broader residential development.

These efforts are part of the state’s larger vision to promote inclusive urban growth and support the ‘Housing for All’ mission, especially in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. By targeting both plot-based self-construction and pre-built units, the schemes provide flexible, scalable solutions for first-time homebuyers and low- to middle-income families.
