Round Homey Portal Controls AC, Speakers and Smart Lights

Homey launches the Portal, a compact 2.8-inch touchscreen controller that manages smart lights, speakers, heating and air conditioning, while offering widgets for timers, weather and energy monitoring.

Homey launches the Homey Portal, an innovative small gadget that is meant to serve as an interface to control the connected gadgets in your house. The circular device incorporates the use of both a touch screen and a rotating wheel so that you can control your lights, speakers, heating and AC. 

This includes a 2.8-inch circular screen, rotary knob, a proximity sensor, speaker, and an ARM Cortex-A55 quad-core processor. Power is supplied through the USB-C port, and the unit can either rest on a stand or be mounted on the wall. The small size makes it possible for it to serve as a room-based controller in a smart home.

By making use of the Homey application, one is able to link a specific room to the Portal device; as a result, the interface displays the smart devices that can work with that room. In addition, the interface can be personalised for convenient control.

The touch screen and dial offer direct manipulation of multiple features. One can control the brightness and colour of smart lights, regulate the temperature of HVAC units, and play music or control its volume on smart speakers. Such an interface is more efficient than relying on smartphone apps for basic smart home activities.

In addition to device control, some practical widgets can be seen on the Homey Portal. Some of them include a timer, weather info, and energy consumption of the house. The device is made to be integrated into Homey’s automation system, thus providing people with access to a variety of smart home features.

The Portal is not meant to run as an independent smart home hub. Users must control their smart home through the Homey platform, utilising a Homey Hub, Homey Cloud, or self-hosted Homey server. This means that the Portal is more of an add-on to an already existing Homey system.

Homey starts pre-order sales of the Portal in its online shop at a launch price of $249. It will start delivering orders in late 2026, but after that, the regular price will be $299.

By featuring its round interface, a physical dial, and room-based controls, the Homey Portal seeks to offer a hands-on approach to the management of smart homes on a daily basis. The connectivity that the Homey Portal provides to the wider Homey system offers the user a choice other than relying on their smartphone or assistant to manage the devices.
