Radisson Hotel Group is accelerating its expansion in India’s fast-growing spiritual tourism segment with new openings in Shirdi, Puri, and Indore, and an upcoming hotel launch in Ujjain this year.
The move strengthens the Group’s footprint in faith-led travel hubs, a segment witnessing strong domestic tourism growth.
Radisson has a track record of early entry into culturally significant markets such as Ayodhya and Prayagraj, and its focus on these cities reflects a strategy to gain a first-mover advantage in emerging pilgrimage destinations.
Key Highlights
Religious tourism continues to be a key driver of travel demand. The Ministry of Tourism reported over 1,439 million religious visits in 2022, generating around ₹1.34 trillion in revenue. Industry projections suggest continued expansion, boosting infrastructure development, connectivity, and job creation. Ujjain alone drew more than 52.8 million visitors in 2023, while Shirdi, Puri, and Indore maintain steady footfalls supported by government initiatives and improved transport networks.
Radisson’s recent openings include Temple Tree Hotel Shirdi, Radisson RED Indore, and Park Inn & Suites by Radisson Puri, with Radisson Hotel Ujjain scheduled soon. These properties cater to business, leisure, and pilgrimage travellers with all-day dining, event spaces, wellness, and recreation facilities.
"India’s spiritual destinations are witnessing unprecedented growth, and RHG is proud to bring internationally branded hospitality to these culturally significant cities. Our long-standing market foresight and first-mover approach allow us to offer globally recognised service standards while preserving the essence and heritage of each destination. With our expansion into Shirdi, Puri, Indore, and Ujjain, we are not just opening hotels; we are creating destinations that support India’s evolving tourism ecosystem, while aligning with the government’s vision for infrastructure development, sustainable growth, and inclusive spiritual tourism,” said Nikhil Sharma, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, South Asia, Radisson Hotel Group.
