IHCL Signs Taj Hotel in Weligama, Expands Sri Lanka Footprint

The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), the largest hospitality group in India, has announced its latest move into the international market by developing a Taj hotel in Weligama, Sri Lanka.

The new beachfront hotel will be developed by Beryll Group as a greenfield site and will include 220 hotel rooms and 80 luxury serviced apartments.

“We think Weligama is becoming one of the most popular coastal destinations in Sri Lanka, with increasing interest in surfing, wellness, and nature-based travel,” said Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and CEO of IHCL.

“This development aligns with IHCL's objective to enhance the presence of the Taj brand in high-growth leisure markets as there is continued momentum in tourism in Sri Lanka.”

The Taj Weligama will be located in Sri Lanka’s Southern Province and will have panoramic views of the Indian Ocean along with a complete range of lifestyle amenities.

These amenities include an all-day dining restaurant, two specialty restaurants, beach bar and grill, lounge/bar and deli, as well as a J Wellness Circle. In addition to these amenities, there will be a advanced fitness center, swimming pool, children's play areas, entertainment areas, and over 9,000 square feet of banquet and convention space.
