IHCL Signs Taj Hotel in Guwahati, Expands Northeast Presence

Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has signed an agreement to open a Taj hotel in Guwahati, marking the brand’s first entry into Assam’s capital.

The signing ceremony was attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The upcoming Taj Guwahati will feature 250 rooms, achieved through the renovation and repositioning of an existing 150-room property and the addition of 100 new rooms. Puneet Chhatwal, CEO of IHCL, highlighted that the development reflects the company’s confidence in Assam’s economic growth and Guwahati’s role as a commercial and cultural hub for the Northeast.

The introduction of the Taj brand in the city is expected to further develop the hospitality sector while supporting business and tourism activity in the region.

The hotel will be located in central Guwahati on an expanded parcel of land exceeding nine acres. Designed as an urban retreat, the property will reflect the culture and character of Assam.

Taj Guwahati will include several dining venues, banqueting and meeting facilities, and the brand’s signature J Wellness Circle spa. These offerings will cater to both business and leisure travellers, providing a mix of luxury, comfort, and local cultural experiences.

With this signing, IHCL will operate five hotels in Guwahati, including three properties currently under development, further consolidating the brand’s presence in the Northeast.
