GDA Reclaims Land Worth Rs 800 Crore for Indirapuram Extension

GDA Reclaims Land Worth Rs 800 Crore for Indirapuram Extension

Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has reclaimed nearly 57,000 square meters of land valued at ₹800 crore after almost a decade-long legal battle, making way for the long-pending Indirapuram Extension housing project. Authorities confirmed the land, cleared of encroachment near Shakti Khand, would be utilised to construct more than 7,500 flats under the flagship scheme to provide affordable housing. On Tuesday, GDA, accompanied by a strong police presence, cleared over 150 temporary and permanent encroachments from the land, at last acquiring possession of the pivotal plot.

The authority informed that it would prepare a new blueprint for the project, which had been halted due to land acquisition and illegal occupation disputes, in the near future.

Originally planned during 2014, the Indirapuram Extension project had envisaged developing approximately 22 hectares to meet emerging housing needs along the eastern border of Delhi. Unauthorized settlements, however, spread on the plot, compelling GDA to initiate a long legal battle to reappropriate the land.

Authorities say they will now revise the project's detailed project report (DPR) to conform with current needs, and that a new tendering process will likely begin soon.

Local residents reacted positively to the news, saying the move would reduce the pressure on Ghaziabad's over-saturated residential market. Experts further weighed in that successful implementation of the extension project can get momentum in stalled real estate in the area going again.
