Wyndham Hotels and Resorts is considering the prospects of operating hotel properties in India, which would make it change its strategy of operations in one of the fastest expanding hospitality markets in the world.
Although the company has already had 95 hotels in India based on franchise arrangement, it still does not run any property in the country. It operates about 20 hotels in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region of the world.

Dimitris Manikis, President, EMEA, stated that almost 70 percent of hotel establishments in India are operated on management contract basis so this model is strategically ideal in terms of expanding.
The company is screening selective management prospects and intends to launch its branded residence idea in India in two years, after the signature of its first individual branded residence venture in Al Marjan, UAE.

Wyndham is also increasing its presence in India. Rahool Macarius, Market Managing Director, Eurasia, stated that the number of hotels the group has in the pipeline is 50-55 hotels, which will be supplemented by 7,000 rooms in three years. It is focusing on bigger properties that have 100-120 rooms, although it is still expanding to leisure and spiritual destinations.
With increased infrastructure growth and domestic travellers, Wyndham believes that India is a thriving growth market with changing competitive forces across the segments.
