UP Fast-Tracks Rs. 6,000 Cr Greenfield Townships in 13 Cities

Uttar Pradesh housing projects

The Uttar Pradesh government has instructed local housing development authorities to expedite land aggregation for launching greenfield township schemes in 13 cities ahead of the festive season.

Targeted cities include Aligarh, Meerut, Jhansi, Mathura, Agra, Moradabad, Kanpur, Firozabad, Bulandshahr, Banda, Ayodhya, Rampur, and Saharanpur. More than Rs. 6,000 crore has been sanctioned for thirty township projects, with higher allocations for Moradabad, Saharanpur, and Rampur. The greenfield township scheme, introduced in 2023, operates on a financing model where the state covers 50 percent of land acquisition costs, to be repaid by the respective development authority over 20 years.

Key Highlights

  • UP to launch Rs. 6,000 crore greenfield township projects in 13 cities
  • State to fund 50 percent of land acquisition, repayable over 20 years
  • Projects to roll out before Diwali to meet high housing demand

Officials noted that several projects are likely to launch by early autumn, while others may roll out closer to Diwali. A recent review meeting chaired by the principal secretary of the housing department assessed progress to ensure timely implementation.

The initiative aims to address growing housing demand, promote balanced urban growth, and align with the state’s socio-economic development goals. By focusing on high-demand urban centers and leveraging a long-term funding model, the government seeks to make housing more accessible while driving infrastructure development. If the current pace continues, these projects could significantly transform the urban landscape in Uttar Pradesh’s key cities.
