
Salone del mobile has solidified its presence in India with a strategic presence in New Delhi and Mumbai which is in accordance with its commitment to one of the rapidly expanding design and furniture markets in the world.
As India is now the tenth largest visitor country in the Milan fair with more than 4,490 people attending, the program indicates that the bilateral relationships are growing stronger and that there are more opportunities to open up more businesses to the Italian companies.
During the visit, President Maria Porro emphasised the long-term potential of the Indian market saying it was a young, design-aware market in which quality, craftsmanship and cultural value played a fundamental role making the purchase.
In the India Art Fair, New Delhi, Salone introduced Salone Raritas a new curatorial platform focused on collectible design, limited editions and high craftsmanship. The project will introduce architects, developers and other professionals in the hospitality sector with rare culturally important pieces of design.

However, in Mumbai, the emphasis was changed to large-scale projects by introducing Salone Contract, a design and market platform that deals with the complexity of the modern real estate and hospitality development. Rem Koolhaas and David Gianotten of OMA are in charge of the masterplan of Salone Contract making it an integrated ecosystem, which will bring together design, manufacturing and services.
Italy continues to be the second-largest exporter of furniture to India in the EU and it has a trade surplus. As the furniture market in India produces an annual growth of over 50 billion Euros by 2029, the India contact of the Salone highlights a decade of vision based on choosing to work together, cultural exchange and sustainable development throughout the global design systems.
