On International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over the keys of 2,722 newly built GPRA flats to women allottees in Kasturba Nagar and Sarojini Nagar, Delhi.
During the ceremony, he also laid the foundation stone for 6,632 additional flats across Netaji Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, Sriniwaspuri, and Kasturba Nagar, alongside the Bharat Business Park office towers.
Collectively, the seven redeveloped general pool residential accommodations (GPRAs) will comprise 24,917 dwelling units, replacing 12,970 older units, marking one of the largest central government staff housing overhauls in Delhi.
Key Highlights
The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) is executing the redevelopment on a self-funding model, with the NBCC, a public sector undertaking, generating revenue by selling commercial properties such as the World Trade Centre (Nauroji Nagar) and Downtown (Sarojini Nagar).
Rekha Gupta, Delhi Chief Minister: “The GPRA redevelopment will transform central government staff housing, providing world-class facilities for residents.”
Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Housing Minister: “Self-funded redevelopment ensures efficient execution while generating revenue for the government.”
This mirrors redevelopment models used by previous governments for East Kidwai Nagar and Moti Bagh colonies. The Bharat Business Park will be a modern commercial office complex featuring 217,000 square meters of sustainable and energy-efficient office space, with an estimated project value of ₹2,270 crore.
