Marriott Opens Legacy Mekong as Its 700th APEC Hotel

Marriott International has achieved a major regional milestone with the opening of Legacy Mekong, Can Tho, Autograph Collection, marking its 700th hotel in the Asia Pacific excluding China (APEC) region.

This expansion underscores Marriott’s strategic shift toward developing properties in emerging destinations rather than limiting growth to major gateway cities.

Located on a private islet along Vietnam’s Hau River, the newly opened Legacy Mekong brings the Autograph Collection’s hallmark focus on storytelling, design individuality and local cultural immersion.

It becomes the second Autograph Collection hotel in Vietnam, joining the existing Vinpearl Landmark 81, Autograph Collection. Marriott continues to accelerate its presence in Vietnam, where it already operates 30 hotels. The company has a robust pipeline of over 50 new projects planned across both urban and leisure markets, including Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, and Ha Giang — reflecting sustained demand from domestic and international travelers.

Across the wider region, Marriott now manages 700 hotels under 27 brands in 22 countries within APEC, supported by a development pipeline of 400 additional properties. The company’s growth is further strengthened by the global reach of Marriott Bonvoy, which has expanded to 260 million members worldwide, enhancing loyalty-driven travel.

Legacy Mekong itself offers 86 bungalows and villas, surrounded by tropical gardens, with river-inspired architecture, Mekong-focused dining, curated wellness experiences and cultural programs tailored to experiential travelers. The launch reinforces Marriott’s commitment to elevating tourism offerings in Vietnam’s fast-growing Mekong Delta region.
