Madhya Pradesh to Launch India's First Digital Property Registry

Synopsis: Madhya Pradesh is set to launch India's first unified digital property registry and tracking portal, enabling citizens to access all properties registered in their name through a single platform while improving transparency, curbing illegal developments, and streamlining urban governance.

The Madhya Pradesh government is preparing to launch India's first unified digital property registry and tracking portal, a technology-driven initiative aimed at transforming property management and improving transparency in urban governance. The new platform will allow citizens to view all properties registered in their name through a single online interface while enabling government agencies to strengthen monitoring, reduce fraud, and curb the growth of illegal colonies.

The portal is being developed by the Madhya Pradesh State Electronics Development Corporation (MPSEDC) under the Urban Administration and Development Department (UADD). As part of the initiative, every residential property in the state will be assigned a unique digital property identification number linked to either the owner's Aadhaar or Samagra ID. The digital identifier is expected to create a unified database of property ownership, making it easier for citizens to access records and for authorities to verify property-related information.

Once operational, the portal will integrate property records maintained by multiple urban local bodies into a single digital platform. Citizens will be able to search and track all properties registered in their name without visiting multiple municipal offices. The system is also expected to simplify property verification during buying and selling transactions, improve record management, and reduce disputes arising from incomplete or fragmented ownership records.

Officials believe the platform will strengthen urban planning by enabling authorities to identify unauthorised developments and monitor land use more effectively. The unified database is expected to support better tax administration, improve municipal revenue collection, and facilitate more efficient delivery of civic services. By digitising and linking property records, the government also aims to minimise fraudulent transactions and enhance accountability across the property registration system.

The initiative forms part of Madhya Pradesh's broader digital governance strategy, which focuses on leveraging technology to improve public service delivery and administrative efficiency. By introducing a unified property registry with unique digital identifiers, the state aims to create a more transparent, accessible, and citizen-centric property management system. If implemented successfully, the portal could serve as a model for other states seeking to modernise land and property administration through integrated digital infrastructure.
