Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), the nation's largest hospitality company, has signed a new Tree of Life resort in the midst of Pondicherry's historic White Town.
The heritage-listed 18-key brownfield development will restore the French colonial-era building at the intersection of Rue Suffren and Bazaar Saint Laurent Street, near New Sand Beach.
Set to emerge as a boutique resort, the property will have an all-day dining restaurant, a tranquil swimming pool, and a spa — all of which will be inspired by the slow travel philosophy of the Tree of Life brand.
Key highlights:
"Pondicherry's heritage and leisure offering is a perfect fit for the Tree of Life brand. This signing further underscores our focus on curating boutique experiences that provide uniqueness and authenticity." stated Ms. Deepika Rao, Executive Vice President – New Businesses & Hotel Openings, IHCL.
The resort, erstwhile identified by Vieilles Maisons Françaises (VMF) as 'Patrimoine Historique', is visualized as a peaceful cultural retreat. Visitors will be invited to discover the town's French-heritage cycling tours, sun-kissed promenades, and café culture.

Mr. Karthik Annamalai, project partner, said, "We are delighted to collaborate with IHCL and celebrate the city's ageless heritage through the Tree of Life experience."
With this acquisition, IHCL will have four hotels in Pondicherry — one up and running and three in the development stage — solidifying its foothold in India's vibrant boutique and experiential travel space.
