
The Himachal Pradesh government has resolved the long-standing ownership and management dispute over the iconic Hotel Wildflower Hall, announcing plans to invite global bids for its operation.
The decision, finalized during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, marks a new chapter for the seven-star heritage resort nestled amid deodar forests near Mashobra, close to Shimla.
The cabinet concluded that only a leading international hotel chain could maintain the high standards and prestige of Wildflower Hall.

Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan confirmed that a Government of India undertaking will soon invite global tenders to ensure participation by renowned hospitality brands, promising world-class management and increased state revenue.
The property is currently managed on an interim basis by the Oberoi Group until a new operator is selected. The state recently regained complete ownership of the hotel on March 31, 2025, following a two-decade legal battle with East India Hotels Ltd (EIHL).
The Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of Himachal Pradesh upheld the state’s right to manage the property, originally disputed since 2002 over alleged contract violations.

Since regaining control, the state has already earned INR 425 crore in revenue. With global bidding on the horizon, the government aims to combine heritage preservation, luxury tourism, and economic growth, reaffirming Wildflower Hall’s status as one of India’s premier luxury heritage hotels.
