dsm-firmenich has announced two major investments in India totaling $70 million, highlighting its commitment to local manufacturing, flavor innovation, and sustainability.
The company has inaugurated the expansion of its seasonings plant in Thuravoor, Kerala, and broken ground for a greenfield Taste manufacturing facility in Vadodara, Gujarat. The Kerala expansion, effective October 2025, will add 15,000 metric tons of capacity to the global seasoning hub, producing exclusively ethylene oxide (EtO)-free, eco-friendly seasonings. This expansion supports the rising demand for clean-label, sustainable seasonings across Asia and the Middle East while creating 150 local jobs.
Key Highlights
The Thuravoor facility runs entirely on renewable electricity, incorporates water conservation systems, and helps reduce Scope 3 emissions through localized production.
In Vadodara, Gujarat, the company is investing €55 million in a 56,000 sqm greenfield Taste plant. The site will produce 15,000 metric tons annually of sweet and savory flavors, supported by advanced green drying, agile encapsulation systems, automated packaging, and a quality-control lab. Focused on high-growth categories like beverages and sweet goods, the plant will generate 200+ jobs and is expected to be operational by Q4 2027.
Both projects were launched with senior leadership present, including Maurizio Clementi, EVP Taste, and Rahul Jalan, President India, alongside dignitaries from the Embassy of Switzerland in India and Bhutan.
Maurizio Clementi, Executive Vice President, Taste, dsm-firmenich comments: “Our strategic investment in these two projects is a powerful statement of our long-term vision for India. Both will fuel market growth, elevate innovation in taste, texture and health, and strengthen our collaboration with customers to deliver differentiated solutions. We’re not just adding capacity—we’re significantly expanding our capabilities to anticipate evolving consumer and partner needs.”
Rahul Jalan, President, India, dsm-firmenich adds: “India’s culinary richness, customer proximity, culture of innovation, and skilled talent make it a key growth hub for dsm-firmenich.
