Co-operative Housing Societies in Nashik: A Gateway to MHADA's Affordable Homes

Co-operative

The MHADA authorities organized a Janata Durbar, which is a people’s court, similar to Lok Shahi Din, while the residents approached the office about their complaints requiring solutions. The housing colony residents of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) advised officials on monday about cooperative societies.

Shivkumar Awalkanthe, MHADA Nashik Board chief officer, said that these societies will assist them in property transactions. He also mentioned that citizens who settled their dues and reside in MHADA have built houses for a long time, but the lack of ownership title prevents them from taking any benefit from the structures and suggested people there should form societies at the earliest.

Since 1967, the housing body has been constructing houses in Nashik city, connecting towns and Malegaon. It has been working for so many years to provide people with affordable housing from lower and middle-income groups. Over 10,000 beneficiaries of MHADA are from Nashik district alone, and it is expected that MHADA will organize Janata Durbar at its office on the first Monday of every month and to resolve their complaints, the MHADA colony residents are requested to approach the office by that time.

It is noted that the residents of these colonies might want to sell their property someday, and transfer it to their heirs or even do redevelopment work, but this lacks ownership, preventing them from proceeding with their new ideas. The lack of interest among people and different views are the major reason behind the non-formation of societies, and it is mandatory that people should come together for their family and create a better future for their heirs.
