Bhupender Yadav

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav highlighted the real estate sector’s pivotal role in nation-building while addressing the Confederation of Real Estate Developer Associations of India (CREDAI) National Conclave 2025 in New Delhi.

The event was attended by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah as the Chief Guest. Yadav emphasised that the real estate industry is central to India’s economic growth, urban future and quality of life, and stressed that sustainable and climate-resilient urban development must become the new normal.

Key Highlights

  • Minister Bhupender Yadav emphasised the real estate sector’s role in nation-building and climate commitments
  • Called for sustainable, climate-resilient planning including flood-resilience and heat-adaptive materials
  • Urged adoption of energy-efficient, green building practices and modern environmental governance reforms

As India progresses toward Viksit Bharat by 2047, Yadav underlined that city planning and construction must ensure inclusive, resilient and sustainable growth, with environmental considerations integrated from the earliest stages of development. He noted the sector’s impact on energy use, water consumption, waste generation, air quality and urban heat, and linked real estate’s role to achieving India’s Net Zero target by 2070.

Yadav urged developers to adopt climate-resilient urban planning, including flood-resilient layouts, heat-adaptive materials, increased green cover and sustainable mobility solutions. He also outlined key reforms to modernise environmental governance, such as strengthening environmental clearance processes, promoting digital and tech-driven systems, adopting a risk-based regulatory approach, advancing Mission LiFE and the Green Credit Programme, and reinforcing air and water quality frameworks in urban areas.

The minister assured stakeholders that while the government supports ease of doing business, it cannot come at the cost of environmental safeguards. He encouraged industry bodies like CREDAI to partner in shaping future-ready cities through energy-efficient design, renewable energy, water-positive developments, circular construction practices and green buildings, which add long-term value for cities and citizens.
