Mukesh Ambani, India’s richest man and chairman of Reliance Industries, has reportedly acquired a prime property in New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood for $17.4 million, according to public records.
The building, located at 11 Hubert Street, had been vacant for a decade and was previously owned by tech billionaire Robert Pera, chairman and CEO of Ubiquiti, who purchased it for $20 million in 2018. Pera had enlisted architect Eric Cobb to design a 17,000-square-foot mansion, which was never built.

The property was later listed in 2021 for $25 million, complete with approved plans by Cobb and an earlier proposal from Maya Lin Studios. Cobb’s design envisioned a luxurious estate with a full-floor primary suite and workspace, an NBA-sized half basketball court, a double-height living room with courtyard access, and a formal dining room with a bar.
Maya Lin’s concept took an even grander approach, imagining a 20,000-square-foot mega-mansion featuring seven bedrooms, 5,000 square feet of outdoor space, a half-Olympic swimming pool, and expansive entertaining areas.

Ambani’s acquisition comes two years after he sold his two-bedroom Manhattan condo for $9 million, signaling a renewed focus on high-value international real estate investments. While Reliance Industries’ US arm (RIL USA) has not revealed development plans for the site, the Tribeca property could become a flagship residential project in one of Manhattan’s most prestigious neighborhoods, underscoring Ambani’s growing global footprint and appetite for trophy assets.
