According to a story by The Indian Express, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) offered 9,887 flats for sale in the first week of this year alone, but only 2,628 of them, or about 26.5%, have found purchasers thus far.
The DDA unveiled three housing projects on January 6 that are mostly intended to assist impoverished areas. One of these initiatives, the Sabka Ghar Awaas Yojana, made 9,079 apartments available in places like Siraspur, Loknayak Puram, and Narela. Certain groups, including as women, war widows, autorickshaw drivers, and street sellers, were given a 25% discount on these dwellings.
Most of them were assigned to EWS (economically weaker sections) and LIG (low-income groups), although 769 were classified as HIG (high-income group) and MIG (middle-income group) flats. Only 2,440 of the 9,079 units under this plan have been sold, with 2,000 of those being EWS apartments, according to a senior DDA official.
7,579 apartments were initially part of the Sabka Ghar Awaas Yojana. However, the DDA raised the amount by 500 EWS units on January 24 and another 1,000 units on February 10 due to the high demand for affordable housing.
The recent approval of a Metro line for the area was cited by the official as the reason for the increase in sales in Narela. The Rithala-Narela-Nathupur (Kundli) route was approved by the Union Cabinet on December 6 of last year as a component of Delhi Metro's Phase 4 extension.
The DDA offered 700 EWS homes in Narela at a 25% discount to construction and building workers as part of a different program called the Shramik Awaas Yojana. According to the official, only 105 of these have been bought thus far. The sales period for the Shramik Awaas Yojana and Sabka Ghar Awaas Yojana programs is scheduled to end on March 31.
