Dundigal police arrested the owner of a real estate company on Thursday for allegedly cheating customers by failing to deliver promised services in a villa project.
G Vijay Lakshmi is the owner of Sri Laxmi Constructions, Laxmi Magnus Constructions, and Bhavana GLC Cribs, located in Mallampet. In 2018, she sold villas in various sizes—ranging from 120 to 300 square yards—promising amenities such as a swimming pool, a yoga room, and more.
According to police, the buyers, many of whom had taken loans or sold their properties to buy the villas, were promised key amenities.
However, they were never provided with basic facilities such as drainage and water connections, all of which were assured by the accused.
The accused attempted to flee the country on Thursday morning by boarding a flight from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. However, police had been alerted, and she was arrested at the airport.
Approximately 260 members made an agreement with the accused and the construction staff by taking loans, selling their properties, and paying a huge amount to the accused. However, the accused did not provide the facilities and didn’t complete the works like drainage, water, current meters, and compound wall promised by her.
Thereby, the investors filed a complaint that Vijayalaxmi cheated them who put their whole savings to purchase the villas. On Thursday, based on credible information, the police apprehended the accused person at the RGI Airport, Shamshabad, and brought her to the police station. Upon interrogation, the accused admitted to being guilty of the offenses in the complaint.
