88 lakh+ Homes delivered under the PMAY Scheme, says Union Minister

The Rajya Sabha was notified on December 2 that more than 88 lakh homes have been delivered to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) participants.

Tokhan Sahu, the Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, responded in writing to a query by stating that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has approved more than 1.18 crore homes till November 18.

Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Rental Housing (ARH), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), and Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS) are these four verticals. The Memorandum of Agreement to implement PMAY-U 2.0 has been signed by 29 states and UTs as of this writing.

Since June 25, 2015, the ministry has been supporting state and Union territory initiatives to build pucca dwellings in urban areas nationwide by offering central assistance under PMAY-U, he said.

"Based on project proposals submitted by the State/UT Governments under PMAY-U, as on 18.11.2024, a total of 118.64 lakh houses have been sanctioned by the Ministry...and more than 88.02 lakh are completed/delivered to the beneficiaries. The remaining houses are at different stages of construction," the minister said in the written responses.

According to him, MoHUA has learned from PMAY-U's experiences and has launched the PMAY-U 2.0 'Housing for All' Mission, which will be implemented in urban areas nationwide starting on September 1, 2024, with the goal of building, buying, and renting 10 million houses at a reasonable cost to eligible beneficiaries through the scheme's four verticals.
