Kavita Trivedi
Principal Architect
Once confined to the margins of a male-dominated profession, women architects have steadily reshaped the narrative of architecture through resilience, talent, and vision. Historically restricted by societal norms and limited access to education, women gradually entered the field as these barriers eased, proving their creative and technical prowess.
Early pioneers like Marian Mahoney Griffin, whose iconic drawings defined Frank Lloyd Wright’s legacy, laid crucial groundwork despite long-standing invisibility. In India, stalwarts such as Brinda Somaya, Abha Narain Lambah, and Sameera Rathod, among others, have transformed the profession through conservation-led practices, innovative design, and urban interventions.

Within this evolving legacy, architects like Kavita Trivedi, Founder and Principal Architect of Kavita Trivedi Studio, exemplify the contemporary woman practitioner, bringing decades of experience, a deeply client-centric philosophy, and refined, context-sensitive design to the forefront of Indian and International architecture.
Kavita brings over three decades of professional experience shaped by rigorous practice, mentorship, and a deeply collaborative design philosophy. A graduate of Rachana Sansad Academy of Architecture, Mumbai, her early career was mentored by Chandrasekhar Kanetkar, followed by nearly twenty years of formative practice under the guidance of Nozer Wadia, whose egalitarian approach to professional training left a lasting impact on her outlook.
Working in demanding site conditions without gender bias instilled in her confidence, resilience, and technical rigor. Extensive travel and participation in international trade fairs further broadened her architectural perspective and sensitivity to materials and detailing.
At the core of her practice lies a client-centric philosophy; each project is treated as a unique narrative.
Rather than imposing a signature style, her studio translates individual client aspirations into thoughtful, distinctive architectural solutions through close collaboration and informed guidance.
“Every project begins with understanding the client’s needs, tastes, and way of life. The result is a space so personal and distinctive that it reflects the client’s vision rather than being identifiable as my own”, she adds.
Crafting Bespoke Spaces
Her practice predominantly focuses on personal residences, city homes, and weekend retreats, where direct dialogue with clients allows designs to evolve organically.
A strong sensitivity to site and landscape defines her architectural language, particularly in weekend homes that are carefully embedded within their natural surroundings rather than imposed upon them.
One such project features a glass-enclosed family lounge conceived like a contemporary conservatory, where climate-controlled luxury coexists with uninterrupted views of gardens, treetops, and the night sky, offering a restorative experience rooted in nature.
This philosophy extends seamlessly into her interior design approach, where layered colors, textures, and materials are composed to create calming, enduring environments, an effect frequently acknowledged by her clients.
Her versatility is further evident in curated and commercial works, notably the Ceramic Salon exhibition designed for curator Farah Siddiqui Khan in collaboration with the House of Mahendra Doshi, where Art Deco furniture was thoughtfully juxtaposed with contemporary ceramics and rare antique pieces to mark the Art Deco movement’s centenary.
Internationally, her recently completed Dubai villa showcases a confident blend of bold hues, metallic accents, and refined finishes, featuring furniture and lighting from renowned global brands. In Mumbai, her design of the Scentido flagship perfumery within a heritage Art Deco building reflects her sensitivity to restoration, where original stone elements and stained glass were revived and enhanced to create a distinctive retail environment.
Across the years, our architecture and design practice has spoken softly but firmly. Always holding space for timeless intention and an uncompromised design vision
Balancing Vision & WellBeing
For Kavita, one of the most demanding aspects of architectural practice lies in aligning ambitious design aspirations with defined budgets, particularly while maintaining uncompromised quality. Her collaborative approach with clients allows her to quickly understand their priorities, enabling thoughtful allocation of resources to achieve the best possible outcome, even within financial constraints. Quality, however, remains non-negotiable.

“Clear communication, analytical thinking, and adaptability are essential to solving complex design challenges, but emotional intelligence is what truly helps me understand my clients. I believe in observing, staying calm, and responding thoughtfully in every situation”, shares Kavita. Beyond professional challenges, she places strong emphasis on maintaining balance and mental clarity. Regular travel, wildlife safaris, and a passion for photography, whether capturing birds from her home or landscapes in the wild, serve as vital sources of rejuvenation and creative renewal.
Expanding Design Horizons
Looking ahead, Kavita Trivedi envisions an evolution of her practice that builds on the refinement and attention to detail that define her work. While continuing to craft thoughtfully designed residences, she aims to translate this sensibility into the design of everyday objects, responding to a growing demand among Indian consumers for well-crafted, globally informed products that elevate daily living.
This exploration into product and object design reflects her interest in extending architecture beyond built form into more intimate, functional scales. “I want to continue refining my design sensibility and extend it across different scales, from intimate objects to more diverse commercial projects. Every new direction I take will remain grounded in quality, relevance, and thoughtful innovation”, she concludes.
