Oman’s tourism and aviation sectors continue to strengthen in the first half of 2026 through expanded air connectivity, new international routes, and strategic investments that support visitor growth and economic diversification.
Oman’s tourism and aviation industry is showing resiliency during the first six months of 2026, as a result of increasing international air connections, tourism projects, and development plans that seek to reinforce its place as one of the major destinations in the Gulf region. These measures reflect the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, wherein tourism is among the key sectors for diversification and development.
While the Ministry of Heritage & Tourism has ramped up promotional efforts in the international markets, the ministry has also increased the network of tourism offices outside the country. In addition to this, the country has also increased its direct flights by adding more routes from Muscat to places like Singapore, Sochi in Russia, and Medan in Indonesia.

In addition to the above development, Oman’s air transport sector is enhancing regional connections through Gulf connections as well. In fact, Oman Air has introduced direct daily flights between Muscat and Abu Dhabi as well as adding more destinations for the airline within the region and abroad. It has also added a route from Dubai to Salalah, which further enhances connections in the period of Khareef tourist season.
As a measure to cater to the increasing need for travel during the Khareef Dhofar period, a well-planned strategy has been developed by the Civil Aviation Authority in cooperation with Oman Air and SalamAir. This strategy involves increased number of flights, additional seats capacity, improved airport operation, and better passenger service at the Salalah airport. The Salalah airport is also getting increased international flights from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and India.
Although there have been some temporary setbacks owing to political tensions in the region earlier in the year, all signs point to Oman’s aviation and tourism industry being well on their way towards recovery. Investments in aviation infrastructure, destination marketing, and international partnerships ensure that Oman remains competitive in the regional tourism market.

According to industry analysts, the strategy adopted by Oman in developing its tourism industry through better connectivity and promotions is likely to appeal to a wider range of tourists, both domestic and international, including leisure, cultural, and business travelers. With the government moving forward with its diversification plans, the tourism and aviation industries have become more relevant for the economic growth of the Sultanate.
