IHCL Launches Heritage Hotel in Tamil Nadu's Chettinad

Synopsis: Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) has signed Tree of Life Kanadukathan in Tamil Nadu’s Chettinad, converting a heritage Chettiar mansion into a 20-key boutique hotel to strengthen its heritage hospitality portfolio.

Heritage portfolio of Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has further extended itself with the signing of Tree of Life Kanadukathan in Chettinad, Tamil Nadu. The project will convert an old Chettiar house into a 20-key heritage boutique hotel. This initiative of IHCL is consistent with their business policy to preserve historically important properties through adaptive reuse.

This property, situated in Kanadukathan, one of the most celebrated heritage villages of Chettinad, reflects the unique architectural style of the place. Chettinad is world famous for its opulent houses that have been constructed by the affluent Chettiar clan, known for their beautiful courtyards, intricate wooden work made of teak, Athangudi tiles, Belgian glass and Indian and European architecture.

The project will include restoring and repurposing the heritage building in such a way that its original architectural style remains intact and the modern amenities needed by the hotel can be accommodated at the same time. In doing so, IHCL plans to provide guests with an authentic cultural experience while conserving Tamil Nadu’s architectural heritage.

The hotel would be operated using the Tree of Life brand of IHCL that specializes in providing guests with an experience through intimate boutique hotels. Once it is fully operational, the hotel will offer guests personalized hospitality along with heritage inspired interiors, local cuisines, and cultural activities reflecting the life style of Chettinad region.
