Cookscape Home Interiors : Scaling Execution-Led Design in India's Growing Home Interiors Market

Raakesh Natarajan
Chief Architect & Director

The home interiors industry in India is undergoing a major transformation. What was once a largely unorganised, referral-driven sector has evolved into a fast-growing market shaped by urbanisation, increasing disposable incomes, and changing lifestyle aspirations.

Homeowners today are more design-conscious than ever, seeking complete interior solutions rather than standalone products. Modular kitchens, wardrobes, and full-home interiors have become standard expectations rather than luxury additions.

As customer expectations continue to rise, the industry is moving towards greater standardisation, faster delivery timelines, and higher accountability in execution.

Within this changing landscape, Cookscape Home Interiors has established itself as an execution-focused interior design company built on structured processes, manufacturing precision, and scalable operations.

Managed by Architect Raakesh, Cookscape combines architectural expertise with system-driven project management to deliver a large volume of projects while maintaining consistency in quality.

With more than 1,300 projects delivered annually and a turnover of ₹45 crore, the company represents a new generation of organised interior firms that prioritise both design excellence and reliable execution.

From Architectural Practice to Organised Interior Delivery

Founded 30 years ago by K.Chandrasekaran, Cookscape Home Interiors is now managed by architect Raakesh, whose academic and professional background has significantly influenced the company’s operational approach.

His education includes architecture, project management studies at the University of Manchester, and executive education exposure at Harvard University. Early experience at Larsen & Toubro helped shape his process-oriented mindset, which continues to drive the company today.

The company currently operates through multiple branches across Chennai and Coimbatore, supported by a team of approximately 110 architects and designers. Rather than functioning as a conventional design studio, Cookscape operates as an integrated delivery system where design, estimation, production, and execution work together as a unified process.

Each project follows a clearly defined workflow, with dedicated teams handling client consultation, design development, technical

drawings, manufacturing coordination, and site execution. This structured approach enables the company to manage numerous projects simultaneously while maintaining consistency in quality and delivery standards.

Concept-to-Execution as the Core Strength

A key strength of Cookscape’s business model is its streamlined concept-to-execution process. Every project begins with design development and estimation before moving into a backend engineering stage where production-ready drawings are prepared.

These drawings serve as detailed operational blueprints rather than simple visual references. They guide procurement, manufacturing, quality control, and installation, ensuring that every stakeholder works from the same set of specifications.

  • Cookscape’s material philosophy prioritises durability and long-term performance over cost optimisation alone

This standardised documentation process reduces ambiguity, improves communication, and increases predictability in project execution. Most projects are completed within a 45-day timeline, with client approvals embedded at every stage before production begins. This ensures that the final outcome closely matches the approved design vision.

Material Selection, Technology Integration, and Quality Assurance

Cookscape’s material philosophy is centred on durability and long-term performance rather than cost optimisation alone. The company avoids the use of particle boards and MDF in key structural applications, choosing instead to work primarily with BWP-grade plywood systems.

For carcasses and shutters, Cookscape uses trusted engineered wood solutions such as Greenply variants and HDHMR boards, particularly in moisture-prone areas like kitchens. This approach helps improve product longevity and performance over time.

The company also follows a structured hardware selection process, partnering with globally recognised brands such as Hettich for fittings and Hafele for kitchen appliances. This material ecosystem is intended to deliver reliability and functionality across high-usage areas such as kitchens and wardrobes.

Quality assurance extends beyond project completion. This commitment is reinforced through Cookscape’s 10-year replacement assurance programme, supported by annual service visits. During these visits, technicians inspect and adjust hinges, shutters, channels, and fittings to ensure continued performance and customer satisfaction.

Technology plays an equally important role in the company’s operations. Cookscape uses platforms such as Infurnia to connect design, estimation, and manufacturing workflows. The software automatically generates bills of quantities and production cut lists, reducing manual errors and improving manufacturing accuracy.

By integrating technology into the design and production process, the company is able to maintain high levels of customisation while ensuring efficiency and consistency in execution.

Expansion Plans and Future Growth

ookscape’s design philosophy extends beyond modular kitchens to complete home interiors. Wardrobes, TV units, ceilings, lighting systems, and other interior elements are designed as part of a cohesive visual and functional experience.

“The company is currently preparing for its next phase of growth with plans to expand into Bangalore. Alongside this geographic expansion, Cookscape is investing in digital transformation through the development of a customer-facing design platform”, says Raakesh Natarajan.

According to him, this platform will allow homeowners to explore and personalise their interiors digitally by modifying layouts, experimenting with materials, and visualising different design options before finalisation. The objective is to provide customers with greater involvement during the design process while maintaining professional oversight during execution.

As India’s home interiors market continues to evolve towards organised and technology-enabled delivery models, Cookscape Home Interiors represents a balanced approach that combines architectural expertise, manufacturing discipline, and digital innovation. Its growth story reflects a broader shift within the industry towards scalable, process-driven interior solutions that successfully combine personalisation with operational efficiency.
