Hemant & Pritam Mistry
Managing Directors
Steered by the burgeoning real estate sector, altering lifestyle preferences, and rising disposable income, the interior design industry in India has been undergoing a dramatic transformation. The pervasive impact of the internet and social media further leverages customers with a plethora of possibilities for achieving aesthetically and functionally pleasing homes in which each inch of space is strategically utilized.
Similarly, customers also need quality products and projects delivered on time at an economical price. Managing the diverse demands of today’s highly-informed customers requires the expertise of only industry mavens, who are distinguished by their unparalleled track record of not just successful projects but also their integrity, transparency, adaptability, and sheer focus on quality.
These attributes perfectly describe Hemant Mistry and his brother Pritam Mistry, a customer-centric professional, and their venture, Heman Interiors, a Mumbaibased interior turnkey solution provider. As a second-generation owner and the CEO of Heman Interiors, Hemant and his brother has been playing a pivotal role in continuing the legacy of his father, Satyadev Mistry, and making the company a one-stop fitout service provider for all interior needs.
For many, interior design is just a profession, but to Hemant, this is a platform that conveys the power of contentment. “An interior, to me, represents a blank canvas to be filled. This role needs a combination of creative and technical prowess. In addition, the smile on the client’s face after a product delivery gives a sense of fulfillment”, states Hemant. As per him, being from the Suthar caste also contributes to his passion for the sector. “By our caste, we are carpenters from Rajasthan.
Hence, the interior field is in our blood and DNA”, proclaims Hemant. He firmly believes in the ‘Make in India’ movement and has propelled experts to work towards the same cause, in turn impelling Heman Interiors to reach the upper echelons.
Incorporated in 1981 and led by Hemant and Pritam Mistry, Managing Directors, Heman Interiors has carved a niche through its comprehensive solutions, which encompass designing, building, and manufacturing services. The service spectrum covers civil and interior, modular and ceiling, gypsum, painting, furniture, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, networking, and signage endeavors. In addition, the company also helps the residents enhance their safety by installing access control systems and fire protection equipment. In lieu of a portfolio of projects that reflects innovation, the company has reaped a multitude of mixed clientele like Larsen and Turbo, Indigo-Neel (Powai), Velocity Club House, Motilal Oswal, UTI (Unit trust of India), Axis Bank, Godrej, Sitel, Axis Spaces, TREC, Microcom, HSBC and more.
The ‘X’ Factor
In today’s dynamic world, it is critical yet difficult for a professional to be agile to meet the rapidly changing customer demands. “Especially in a labor-oriented sector, in which both laborers and clients have to be managed, we have to be ready to face the new challenges that may arise every day”, Hemant adds. As a dynamic designer who has seen and served the industry for over three decades, Hemant advises others to keep learning and diversifying their knowledge and skills. According to him, the designer also has to be determined and focused and must have the ability to create the best possible outcome from unpleasant situations. “Most importantly, we should respect elders and their wisdom, which can aid effective knowledge dissemination”, adds Hemant.
"With an emphasis on adding value through excellence, the team at Heman Interiors follows an end-to-end framework, which starts with understanding the requirements and site studies based on which the designs are developed"
He further specifies that, since the sky is the limit in the realm of interior design, a young designer has to take risks and constantly experiment, which can catalyze professional growth as well as innovation. Hemant stands a cut above the rest by not just preaching such actions but also walking the talk. Over the decades, he has amassed technology-driven professionals to create an organization like Heman Interiors, which continuously invests in research, cutting-edge technologies, novel methods, and new construction materials to churn out ingenious results. Additionally, he prioritizes collaborative business and exhorts the team to interact with the client firsthand to identify their unique needs before advancing into the execution of the project.
With an emphasis on adding value through excellence, the team at Heman Interiors follows an end-toend framework, which starts with understanding the requirements and site studies based on which the designs are developed. Once the client reviews and approves the design plans, the company onboards contractors and vendors, who further execute the construction. “We have artisans from Rajasthan who can deliver as per the taste and requirements of the clients”, states Hemant. Additionally, the team also goes the extra mile by ensuring the space is functional and safe before handing over the project.
Towards the Future
Not just invaluable clients, but Heman Interiors has also bagged laudable recognitions owing to its distinctive approach. The most significant work done for the auditorium of Vidyalankar Institute of Technology, Mumbai, stands as a perfect example of the same. The auditorium and the company received one of the most coveted awards in the world - Interior Design Best Auditorium of the Year Awards (2014). “My agenda for the future is to create and work on sustainable designs that are environmentally friendly, such as biodegradable furniture and solar energy”, shares Hemant. With the objective of creating more avant-garde masterpieces in the future, Hemant wishes to continue breathing life into the company’s vision of becoming a service provider with a global reach with a special emphasis on rigorous innovation and delivering premium quality at the best price.
