India is a nation with over 143 crore people, and this number is increasing rapidly. Providing housing at this scale is a massive challenge that demands meticulous planning from all stakeholders. While rural areas are slowly adapting, urban centres are already under immense pressure.
With urban skylines transforming rapidly, green housing is no longer a niche, it’s an evolving norm. But what’s really fuelling this shift? Is it a conscious step toward sustainability, or a well-planned strategy to meet market expectations? The truth lies somewhere in between. With increased environmental awareness, both developers and buyers are leaning towards eco-conscious living driven by both intent and influence.
Green homes which use sustainably sourced, environmentally friendly and recycled building materials, along with being water and carbon emission efficient, is fast becoming the popular choice!
Sustainability in Construction
Sustainability in construction is not something that is added later, it starts right from the planning stage. The design phase plays a crucial role in laying the foundation for a green building. As developers, we incorporate sustainability goals from day one by choosing optimal site locations, designing structures that enhance natural light and ventilation, planning efficient waste and water management systems, and ensuring maximum energy efficiency through building orientation and material selection. By embedding sustainability in the blueprint itself, we not only build homes that are environmentally responsible but also future-proof and cost-efficient for our buyers.
It has become a buzzword across industries and rightly so. We need to make the correct choices to preserve what we have been bestowed with. Using eco-friendly design principles, switching to greener building materials like AAC blocks, manufactured sand, SRI paints, low-flow fixtures, and making efficient use of natural resources can not only meet the growing market demand but also help in achieving broader sustainability goals.
The Indian real estate industry is embracing sustainability by designing and constructing energy-efficient buildings that allow ample natural light and fresh air while generating minimal waste. Such buildings, which receive certification from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), are super-efficient, healthier, and future-ready. These are not just a blessing for the environment but also for the buyer, who benefits from a green home while enjoying substantial savings on electricity and water bills.
The Indian Green Building Council rates buildings based on eco-friendly practices after carefully assessing factors like water use, energy performance and building materials. Buyers must look for this certification before making a significant real estate purchase.

When it comes to modifying our homes to make them ‘green’, even simple steps like switching to LED lights and energy-efficient appliances, segregating waste and composting at home, and using eco-friendly décor and cleaning products can make a huge impact
The Promise of Solar Energy
Solar energy holds huge potential, and there is still a lot of work left to be done in that space. The Government of India is aggressively promoting solar power and is also offering incentives for individuals who choose to adopt it.
There are innumerable direct and indirect benefits in adopting green housing. It aids the circular economy, conserves raw materials, reduces landfill waste, cuts down emissions from production and disposal, and encourages responsible consumption.
India is on a path towards a greener future, and it is ideal to either build a green home or at least create provisions where green measures can be incorporated.
The green councils – WGBC and IGBC
Backed by the UN’s Global Goals for sustainable development, World Green Building Council has come up with a health and well-being framework that drives healthy and equitable buildings in harmony with nature to create better places for people.
This framework has been developed through global consultation and serves as a comprehensive education and advocacy tool that emphasizes the link between the built environment and human well-being. The framework’s six principles are: protecting health, prioritizing comfort, creating harmony with nature, facilitating healthy behaviour, creating social value, and taking climate action. These principles offer a clear direction for designing spaces that support both environmental sustainability and human well-being, making them essential considerations in today’s built environment.
The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) is a part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), which promotes sustainable development through green building certification across sectors. Several of our projects are IGBC-certified, and each of these projects undergoes more than 1,275 checkpoints before being handed over to the customers.
When you enter a room, you typically see walls, doors, and windows. But when you enter a home built by Navin’s, you experience space and a seamless flow of functionality.
