Chandigarh Govt set to launch Aadhaar-based Verification for Property Registration

The Chandigarh administration is set to introduce an Aadhaar-based authentication system for property registration, enabling identity verification through Aadhaar numbers. This system will use demographic or biometric data submitted to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)’s Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR).

According to Nishant Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Estate Officer, a proposal has been sent to UIDAI for approval, and the service is expected to launch next month.

Once approved, Aadhaar authentication will be integrated into the sale-purchase verification process. The authentication will be biometric-based and initially voluntary.

Additionally, a similar PAN card authentication process will be introduced. Currently, manual verification of property-related documents is time-consuming and prone to discrepancies. The new system will streamline this by validating documents through UIDAI using thumb impressions in the biometric system. Once biometric authentication is complete, the system will automatically retrieve relevant data from CIDR, making the process faster, more transparent, and secure, reducing fraud and impersonation risks.

Last month, the administration launched several digital services, including the National Generic Document Registration System (NGDRS), Online Event Permissions System, and Online Certified Copy of Record of Rights at the sub-registrar office. With NGDRS, applicants can book appointments online, minimizing the need for physical visits to the registrar’s office.

The initiative is expected to enhance efficiency, reduce paperwork, and modernize property transactions in Chandigarh. Authorities believe that integrating biometric authentication with property registration will significantly reduce identity fraud and streamline the documentation process. By adopting digital verification methods, the administration aims to provide a secure, transparent, and user-friendly property registration system for residents.
