IHG, Zon Hotels Partner for InterContinental Mumbai Hub

Synopsis:  IHG Hotels & Resorts and Zon Hotels Mumbai sign a MoU to develop a 350-room InterContinental-branded luxury hotel in Mumbai’s Goregaon area. The project aims to strengthen hospitality infrastructure in the city’s rapidly growing western business corridor.

IHG Hotels & Resorts has entered into a strategic partnership with Zon Hotels Mumbai Pvt. Ltd. to develop a new luxury hotel under the InterContinental brand in Goregaon, Mumbai. The proposed project is expected to feature approximately 350 rooms and will cater to the growing demand for premium hospitality offerings in the city’s western suburbs.

Zon Hotels Mumbai is a joint venture between the SanRaj Group and DGS Group. The two parties have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) that outlines their intention to collaborate on the development of the luxury hospitality project. The hotel is planned as a Greenfield development and is expected to move forward following the execution of a definitive hotel management agreement and the completion of necessary approvals and due diligence processes.

The proposed InterContinental hotel will be located in Mumbai’s western region, particularly around the Goregaon corridor, which has emerged as an important commercial and business destination. Improved infrastructure, expanding office developments, and rising corporate activity have contributed to increasing demand for high-quality accommodation in the area. Industry observers view the location as one of Mumbai’s fastest-growing hospitality markets.

The project is expected to serve a diverse mix of business travellers, leisure guests, and the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) segment. Once completed, the hotel will add significant premium room inventory to Mumbai’s hospitality sector while supporting the city’s position as a leading business and tourism destination.

Executives from both organisations have highlighted the strategic importance of the development. Representatives of Zon Hotels stated that the project aligns with their vision of creating globally benchmarked hospitality assets, while IHG’s participation brings international brand recognition, operational expertise, and access to a global customer base.

The partnership also reflects a broader trend in India’s hospitality industry, where domestic developers are increasingly collaborating with international hotel operators to establish premium hospitality assets in high-growth urban markets. As global travel demand continues to recover and business activity expands, international hotel brands are accelerating their presence in key Indian cities. Recent examples include several new IHG-backed developments across Mumbai and other major metropolitan centres.
